Throughout Emily's riding experiences she has always loved the amount of confidence she gained from the horses. She knows that without horses she would never have been able to stay focused or deal with many of the trying things in her life. Now as an instructor she strives to pass that sense of confidence on to her students.
To further advance the great way that horses naturally boost a person's sense of self worth, Emily has created a program specifically designed to target those aspects. Horses are truly a mirror into the soul, see what you have to learn!
Studies have shown that spending even as few as 10 minutes with an animal increases endorphins which are known to decrease stress and arousal levels. Those who have a constant high level of stress are less likely to be able to handle situations where they need a large amount of confidence.
Horses are also "herd" animals and are very sensitive to the type of energy and emotion that is around them. They tend to shy away from angry or aggressive behavior. This helps with those who act out when they are unable to calmly deal with certain situations. This also tends to work well with children and especially teens who push everyone away. Horses don't push back and are great listeners.
Although these sessions may end up being fun, they will not be run haphazardly. Emily has certain exercises to focus on different aspects of a person's personality. These lessons are not quite run like traditional riding lessons, but more situational learning. Some activities may be things that Emily and the student both work on, but some may also be set up more as an assignment and the student will have to problem solve to get the right outcome. Emily will be there to encourage and also point out how these situations are very much like situations in life. These lessons can be combined with traditional sessions with a therapist, or used by themselves.
